What is the difference between a pediatric dentist and a family dentist?
Pediatric dentists are primary and specialty oral care providers for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs. Some pediatric dentists will provide some orthodontic care. Other pediatric dentists will refer to orthodontic specialists.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
recommends the first dental visit be 6 months after the first tooth erupts, or 1 year, whichever comes first. Some pediatric dentists will offer a complimentary first visit. Ask your doctor for recommendations of a dentist for your child.
