Prenatal Classes

Pediatric Partners holds routine free prenatal classes where new families are able to meet our physicians, nurse practitioners and some office staff. Parents can see our office and learn about our practice. Attendees will also receive a free parenting book!

During our class we discuss many topics in detail. Much of this information is included on this site as well, for those who cannot attend a class. Topics covered:
  • Who we are
  • Immunizations
  • General newborn topics
  • Circumcisions
  • Infant safety
  • Our office policies
  • What not to buy
  • Insurance issues
  • Hospital basics
  •  And more!
  • Feeding your baby

Did you know you can sign up for free weekly texts coinciding with your due date to help with every stage of pregnancy and the baby's first year? Visit text4baby for more details. (This is a site that we like, but we are not affiliated with in any way.)

When will we be seen at the hospital?

If you choose our office, be sure to let the hospital know who your pediatrician will be. The hospitals at which we are on staff (Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Shawnee Mission, and St. Luke's South) call us after the baby is delivered. One of the physicians will round daily in the hospital to check on your baby, see how feeding is going, and treat most problems that arise. Most babies are in the hospital 2-3 days and we see them on daily rounds to evaluate how they are feeding, weight loss, physical exam (including yellow jaundice), parental concerns, and other routine issues.

What if we are not delivering at one of the hospitals you go to?

If you will be delivering at a hospital at which we do not have staff privileges, we can help to suggest a pediatrician to take care of your baby until discharge. What if my baby is premature or sick?

We occasionally care for babies in the Newborn Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) if they are there for a short term and for minor issues. We have a relationship with the Neonatologists (specialists in newborn care) at each of the hospitals so that they help care for the infants who are requiring more specialized care.

When do I bring my baby in for the first visit?

We do our initial in-office appointment 1-3 days after discharge from the hospital in most instances. This will be discussed on your discharge date from the hospital.

A Special Note on Weekend Coverage:

We occasionally work with physicians at Village Pediatrics to cover newborns in the hospital. Our groups are independent from one another, but we find that sharing rounding duties on weekends and holidays allows each of us to enjoy more family time, which enriches our personal lives and overall allows us to be better at our jobs. We trust that their physicians will take good care of our patients (as we do theirs) when they cover for us.
