Applied Learning ProcessesApplied Learning Processes is a learning center providing research-based diagnosis and treatment for learning difficulties experienced by children, adolescents and adults. Their methods stimulate the basic sensory-processing deficits that underlie language disorders and fall under the umbrella of Orton-Gillingham techniques as defined by the International Dyslexia Association. 

Autism From the StartAutism From the Start provides a diverse range of individual and family-focused therapies. Their methodologies are evidenced-based, innovative, and delivered in a manner that best fit the needs of the family. They specialize in working with young children through the age of seven.

KayGrossman, MA, LLC provides ADHD coaching for adults and older teens with ADHD.

Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center treats children with developmental disabilities from birth to six years of age.

Metropolitan School of the Arts is a private, coed visual-performing arts high school.

The North Star Academy offers intensive on-site services for individuals from the age of 5 to 22 with intellectual or developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder.

Parent Success System offers online parent program that teaches parents to use a coach-approach with their children.

PossAbilities is a pediatric therapy clinic specializing in therapy for children of all ages with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities and other developmental challenges.

Skills to Succeed offers classes for those with autism, ADHD, and other learning disorders. Classes focus on issues such as social skills, anger management, parenting, and more.

Aspire Behavioral Services provides services based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to those in and around the Kansas City community. These services address the needs of families, schools, and agencies by offering a variety of behavioral services including skill acquisition programming, interventions for the reduction of challenging behavior, one-on-one parent and staff training, group presentations and workshops, crisis intervention services, feeding interventions, school and agency consultation, and social skills training.

Autism Concepts Incorporated:Autism Concepts Incorporated is a behavioral consulting company providing applied behavior analysis (ABA) and verbal behavior analysis (VBA) for children with autistic spectrum disorders, language delays, and other developmental delays.

Kansas City Autism Training Center (KcATC) is a private, licensed child care facility specializing in the treatment of autism spectrum disorders. KcATC uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to optimize learning environments for children with autism spectrum disorders.

Kids TLC Autism Center's mission is to offer a state-of-the-art autism program that provides a broad range of services to guide, educate and support families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorders and other related developmental disabilities. 

Little Steps provides early intensive behavioral services to promote skill acquisition and decrease problem behavior. This program is part of the Edna A. Hill Child development Center in the Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas.

Momentum Behavioral Health offers ABA therapy and family support for autism.

North Star Academy provides a variety of children services beginning at eighteen months up to the age of 22.  Services include: Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention services, a private school, lifespan planning, advocacy, case management to help provide advocacy and resources, family intervention and home based behavioral support to assist with a child’s challenging behavior, on-site assessments, school reintegration support, parent and professional development, after-school, camps and respite activities.

Partners in Behavioral Milestones is dedicated to creating meaningful change for individuals with disabilities and their families.  Located in the Greater Kansas City area, PBM incorporates the principles of ABA and Positive Behavior Supports in every service we provide.

Responsive Centers has a psychologist, Melissa Jones, who does evaluations for autism and ABA therapy.

Summit Behavioral Services provides meaningful in-home Applied Behavior-Analytic (ABA) supports to children and adults with developmental disabilities and other behavioral needs in Kansas City and the surrounding area.

 Inpatient Facilities for Acute Psychiatric Needs:
Outpatient Therapists and Physicians

You will need a social worker, therapist, or psychologist for counseling or behavioral therapy.

If you need someone who can prescribe medications for mental health issues, you will need a physician (pediatrician or psychiatrist) or nurse practitioner.

Our pediatricians do prescribe medications for many of these issues, but sometimes need help from specialists for the therapy aspect or for medications in difficult to manage situations.

Johnson County Mental Health has a program called Open Access.

Access Team – The access Team offers Open Access, same day walk-in comprehensive intake evaluations offered by trained licensed mental health clinicians for persons seeking immediate treatment and mental health care.  Same day access dramatically decreases the waiting time for initial assessment, evaluation and treatment. Upon completion of a full evaluation by a licensed therapist, consumers may be referred for a follow up appointment for case management, therapy and/or medication services in one of our three locations.

Open Access is available Monday through Friday from 9am to 2pm in the Shawnee office located at 6440 Nieman Road and in the Olathe office located at 1125 West Spruce. It does not necessarily have to be for urgent matters.  Families need to provide proof that they live in Johnson County, ID, income amount and insurance card.  

They also have walk in hours for current patients from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday at the same location.

Dianne Voss Atteberry is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She specializes in marital conflict, parenting, trauma, self harm, attachment, adoption, anxiety, depression, grief, violence, and abuse.

Barry McAnultyBarry McAnulty, MSW, LSCSW, LCSW ("Coach Barry") is a clinical social worker who sees approximately 60%  children, teens and families and 40% adults. His office is in Lee Summit and he is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas.

Behavioral Health Specialists: Behavioral Health Specialists is a group of highly taught and experienced clinicians, all of whom are fully licensed in their respective fields. Staffed by well-qualified Psychologists and Social Workers, Behavioral Health Specialists work in an environment of ultimate patient care, concern and healing.

Johnson County Mental Health Center offers services to children 4-18 years old with emotional or behavioral issues. They help with children who don't follow rules, are verbally or physically assaultive, seem withdrawn or isolated, have suicidal thoughts, run away, skip school, or have legal problems due to behavior.

Kansas City Center for Anxiety Treatment specializes in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, and stress related disorders. They have psychologists and clinical therapists on staff.

Kansas City Psychiatric Group has several psychiatrists available to medically treat mental health disorders as well as psychologists available to provide various therapies.

Kids, Inc provides therapy to children and families for a wide variety of issues, including but not limited to: school problems, tutoring, trauma/PTSD, domestic violence, divorce, anger control/impulse and coping skills, Aspergers syndrome, social and self-esteem issues, ADHD/ADD, eating disorders and parenting skill training. Clinical social workers and therapists are on staff.

KidsTLC helps children heal on all levels through innovative therapeutic treatment philosophies; chaplaincy services; expressive therapies such as art, play and music therapy; and through a wealth of opportunities to improve the physical health of clients including the movement towards integrating mental health services with local health clinics that provide physical health services, increased nutrition/wellness education, and opportunities for physical exercise. They offer inpatient and outpatient services. They have a psychiatrist, nurse practitioners and many therapists on staff.

MidAmerica Nazarine University Counseling Center offers treatments for a wide variety of issues for children, teens, and adults. Services include treatments for anxiety, divorce adjustment, behavior problems, school issues, and more. Charges are based on an income-based sliding scale for Kansas City community members. They use their 2nd year graduate counseling students as counselors. All counseling students are supervised by a clinician that is clinically licensed by the State of Kansas.

Midwest Anxiety Treatment Center treats adults and children with anxiety, OCD, stress control, managing bullying, and more. Clinical social workers meet clients in their home or school. They also offer social skills groups and online classes for anxiety.

Midwest Neuroeducational Services provides neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and psychological assessments, individualized recommendations for learning, and offer consultations for learning and educational specialists, academic tutors, executive functioning coaches, speech therapists, and occupational therapists. They have a neuropsychologist and a clinical psychologist on staff.

Psychiatric Associates treats adults and children with a wide range of mental health issues. They have both a psychiatrist (for medication prescribing) and a psychologist (for therapy) on staff. They participate in clinical trials as well as see patients not in trials.

Psychiatry Associates of Kansas City has a number of psychiatrists, some of whom see children. They have four locations.

Renew offers counseling for individuals, families and couples of all ages who are struggling with eating disoders, anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, abuse, sexual addictions, and other personal or relational issues.

Responsive Centers for Psychology & Learning provides services for a wide variety of mental and emotional health issues through psychologists, social workers, and therapists. They provide services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. They have opened a new clinic, Responsive Center for Attention and Learning, which specializes in the evaluation and treatment of ADHD, learning issues, processing deficits, or general cognitive functioning concerns.

Stacy Hutton, PhD, is a psychologist who specializes in LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, individuals who have experienced sexual trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance abuse. She is new to Responsive Centers.

ADHDKC.org is Kansas City’s Non-Profit CHADD Chapter. ADHDKC provides support for thousands of area parents/caregivers of ADHD kids & adults thriving with ADHD. They are committed to providing; monthly group meetings, community outreach & the most updated news/resources on ADHD. ADHDKC was created to build awareness while countering myths & misunderstandings associated with ADHD. Dr. Stuppy is active in this organization and encourages all families affected by ADHD to join!

CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is the nation’s leading non-profit organization serving individuals with ADHD and their families. CHADD has over 16,000 members in 200 local chapters throughout the U.S. Chapters offer support for individuals, parents, teachers, professionals, and others.

Mental Health America provides information on mental health topics, such as depression, anxiety, conduct disorder, children of divorce, and more.

Moms Of SPD Kids provides support for those affected by Sensory Processing Disorder. 

Shawnee Mission Special Education PTA allows members from any local school district for any special needs child, ranging from learning disabiltities, autism, and more.

Act Early KC's mission is to provide free screenings assessing cognitive, motor, and language development of children 1-72 months in order to provide comprehensive intervention services when the child is in the early stages of development. They will implement appropriate intervention services for at risk children with developmental delays and track each child's development throughout the intervention course.

Associates in Neuropsychology will test for post-concussion symptoms, ADHD, learning disorders and intellectual functioning, mood disorders (anxiety/depression). They will also do counseling for adjustment to chronic disease or injury, strategies for learning disorders, anxiety and depression.

Beyond Function is an occupational therapy clinic serving children from birth to 18 years of age in Olathe. They offer feeding therapy services, sensory processing treatment, kinesio taping and splinting, and rhythmic movement therapy.

Bringing Therapy Home provides Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. They help children develop communication, social, play, sensory, and fine motor skills through individualized, play-based therapy. They treat children 12 months-15 years old.

BOOST Physical Therapy and Sports Performance provides land and aquatic physical therapy and sports performance service in multiple KC Metro area locations. 

Children's Physical Therapy Associates provides both land and aquatic based physical therapy at their clinic, in your home, at school, or at community centers.

Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center treats children with developmental disabilities from birth to six years of age. Their therapists treat children with a wide variety of issues from autism, sensory processing disorder, apraxia, feeding disorders, developmental delays, and more. Marian Hope Center offers social skills groups, handwriting help, feeding and nutrition assistance, parenting classes, and more. They have speech therapists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, reading and developmental specialists.

Performance Rehab is a therapist-owned physical therapy practice with two clinic locations in Overland Park. They specialize in post trauma and surgical rehabilitation, pre and post-season training, and general body maintenance/conditioning programs.

PlayAbilities offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to children and teens in their clinic, the child's school, or your home. Their therapists specialize in children with various motor or sensory difficulties, feeding aversion, developmental delays, neurological disorders, torticollis, visual impairments, emotional regulation, and auditory processing disorder. PossAbilities is a pediatric therapy clinic specializing in therapy for children of all ages with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities and other developmental challenges. 

Preferred Physical Therapy offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social skills training.

Specialists in Orthopedic and Sports Medicine is a physical therapy group near our office that is experienced with kids, teens, and adults. In addition to physical therapy, they offer running gait analysis, sports performance programs, golf swing analysis, gym membership, health and wellness programs, and sports massage.
