How can I make saline?

How can I make saline?

A simple homemade recipe for Saline that can be used for multiple purposes.

  • 8 ounces of tap water (1 measuring cup)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of table salt
  • Pinch of baking soda
Mix all ingredients in a glass bottle. Keep the saline for a maximum of 24 hours. Each 24 hours discard the saline, wash the container and make a new solution if needed. This is to keep bacteria from growing in the solution. Using old saline can increase the risk of introducing bacteria into the nose.

If your child over 2 years of age is ready to learn to wash his/her nose, check out the resources on Nasopure's website. They have videos of children rinsing their noses, directions on how to teach kids to do it without getting a mouth full of saline, and more. We are not reimbursed at all by this company, but love it and recommend it because of it's great website and it is a local company. The bottles are made in KC and assembled by disabled adults in Columbia, Missouri.
